Turquoise is the December birthstone. It is believed to bring good fortune, strength and to help overcome illness. The name, turquoise, comes from the Levantine traders, called Turks, who, centuries ago, brought it to Europe from Persia via Turkey. Turquoise has been prized by native americans since the time of the Aztecs, who mined it in New Mexico. The natural variations (matrix) that occur in turquoise are part of its appeal and beauty. |
